10 must-read YA releases that will reignite your reading life this March
Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales
Those looking for a contemporary YA novel to pick up this March might consider giving Sophie Gonzales’ Only Mostly Devastated a chance. A story likened to Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Clueless, and Grease, it’s bound to capture the attention of those who like their contemporary tales with a dash of humor and little more than a dash of feelings.
Only Mostly Devastated follows Will and Ollie, two boys who share a summer romance while Ollie is visiting family across the country. Of course, Ollie was supposed to return home once his summer vacation was over, allowing Will to return to his straight, jockish persona once the school year starts up again. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for both of them, a family emergency winds up keeping Ollie across the country longer than expected.
This also means that Ollie will need to enroll in the same school as Will, though he quickly realizes that Will wants nothing to do with him post-summer. In fact, he barely knows the person who walks the halls of his school — and it seems he’ll have to move on without him. Unfortunately, Will might make doing so difficult.
The synopsis for Only Mostly Devastated reads:
"“Ollie has no intention of pining after a guy who clearly isn’t ready for a relationship, especially since this new, bro-y jock version of Will seems to go from hot to cold every other week. But then Will starts “coincidentally” popping up in every area of Ollie’s life, from music class to the lunch table, and Ollie finds his resolve weakening.”"
It sounds like Ollie and Will are both in for a whirlwind of emotions, and as readers, we’ll probably be feeling those feels as well. Only Mostly Devastated is available for purchase as an ebook and an audiobook, as well as in print.
