10 December book releases to help SFF fans end the year right
Anyone by Charles Soule
Charles Soule is also releasing a new science-fiction story this month, imagining the future if humans were to take the progression of technology in a destructive direction. Anyone, which comes out on December 3, explores what happens after a scientist creates technology that allows human consciousness to be transferred from body to body.
This is how what was initially intended to be a cure for Alzheimer’s turns into a phenomenon that alters the future of the world — and not necessarily for the better. According to the synopsis, the novel then jumps two decades into the future to show us how this technology has become commoditized:
"“Over two decades later, all across the planet, “flash” technology allows individuals the ability to transfer their consciousness into other bodies for specified periods, paid, registered and legal. Society has been utterly transformed by the process, from travel to warfare to entertainment; “Be anyone with Anyone” the tagline of the company offering this ultimate out-of-body experience.”"
And while making money off of this experience isn’t a major problem on its own, it does open up the floor for an underground black market where such advancements are used illegally and immorally — presenting a whole new set of problems. With all of its questions about technology and our future, Anyone sounds like a great pick for readers looking for a thought-provoking story.
