Reverie by Ryan La Sala

Ryan La Sala’s debut fantasy novel hits shelves this December, and it’s being touted as a release that’s ideal for fans of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians series and those who enjoyed the movie Inception. That’s already high praise, and then there’s the cover and synopsis to contend with — both of which will appeal to those who love a good young adult SFF tale.

In Reverie, readers follow Kane Montgomery, who was found half-dead in a river by the police. Kane has no recollection of the events that led up to this, but he does know one thing for sure: Everything that’s happened since has had an unnatural feeling to it. And the only people who have answers for him are three strangers.

Unfortunatelty, as Kane and these three individuals unravel the mystery, things go from strange to stranger. According to the book’s summary:

"“But as he and the others are dragged into unimaginable worlds that materialize out of nowhere—the gym warps into a subterranean temple, a historical home nearby blooms into a Victorian romance rife with scandal and sorcery—Kane realizes that nothing in his life is an accident. And when a sinister force threatens to alter reality for good, they will have to do everything they can to stop it before it unravels everything they know.”"

With a high-stakes good-versus-evil plot and a unique concept, La Sala’s debut sounds like it’ll keep readers flipping the pages. Reverie arrives on December 3, and its imaginative story is the perfect kind to stay beneath the blankets with this month.
