Each week, we are greeted with more of this alternate history that Watchmen brings to us, but when is the show going to step outside of the world building and give us more?

It seems as if Watchmen is very focused on the alternate history of the series — which is fine and wonderful, but when is that going to change into the overarching storyline being presented to us? For so much of this first season, we’re seeing a lot of setup for the world of this new history version of Tulsa but very little story outside of everything happening with Angela.

And even then, it seems as if that is pushed aside for Laurie Blake and whatever it is that Ozymandias is attempting to do. The series, while fun, isn’t doing a great job of bringing to life the original stories within it. We just continually have more questions and not enough context to keep us engaged.

Watchmen has always been the kind of property that allows the world to take over in some regard. The original graphic novel did a beautiful job of bringing to life an alternate history, but it eventually, moved past that to focus on our heroes and their own struggle. Right now, the television show is just a mystery. Everyone has a backstory that we’re trying to hide, and the only ones we know anything about are the original heroes from the comic.

So, my hope for the second half of the season? That the show starts to come away from setting up the world of Watchmen and actually starts to dive into the characters and their placement in it. I don’t trust Laurie and Angela together, but until we see more of them together, we can’t know what’s going on — so, hopefully, we’ll start to see what’s going to happen in Tulsa and throughout the rest of the series in this next episode.
