11. All the Triwizard contestants

Book or movie? The rivalry between the four contestants is in both the Harry Potter books and movies.

Brief description of the rivalry: This is one of those understandable rivalries. The students all have a need to win the competition for their school. There’s a need to succeed and prove that they’re the greatest witch or wizard. And one of those wizards is Harry Potter, who would be nothing without his friends!

Did it remain a rivalry? The rivalry is one of sporting and competition. Like so many other sporting rivalries, behind the scenes, they can be friends. Fleur marries into the Weasley family and even puts her life on the line for Harry when it comes to the Battle of Seven Harrys.

Sadly, we didn’t get to see what it would be like with Viktor and Cedric. Viktor didn’t show up after and Cedric was the victim at the end of Goblet of Fire.

Why it’s one of the greatest: This is just one of those rivalries that shows what it’s like to be in competition with others. We get that reminder that sometimes rivalries aren’t all about hatred or magical allegiances. They’re just about a need to win.

When it all came down to it, the students had the chance to become friends. They were (at least, we can assume) on the same side in the big fight against Voldemort.
