Tom Holland seems like the perfect choice for a live-action Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Atlantis: The Lost Empire is the kind of movie we loved as kids. And with all of the live-action remakes out there in the world, why not cast Tom Holland as Milo Thatch?
Tom Holland is probably one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now. Starring as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his latest film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, is just about to hit the $1 billion mark. So, he’s a pretty hot commodity.
And rumor has it that Holland is being considered to play Milo Thatch in a live-action remake of Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire. While neither Holland or Disney have addressed whether or not these rumors are true, it seems possible — especially with all the animated films being rebooted as of late.
Plus, why not cast Holland as Milo? The iconic character from Atlantis: The Lost Empire has become a cultural icon. With celebrities like Cole Sprouse dressing up like Milo for Halloween, he’s one of the few animated characters that we tend to see over and over again. And now, with a culture full of reboots and live-action remakes, there is no reason we shouldn’t see Holland take Milo to the big screen.
Here’s the thing about Milo: He’s the kind of character that many of us still love. And while a lot of the live-action remakes tend to air on the side of just doing the same movie shot for shot just with human beings in it (unless it is The Lion King where it is all CGI), nothing seems to change.
Maybe we’ll get lucky with an Atlantis: The Lost Empire remake though, because really, that’s the kind of movie we loved as kids. But many of us haven’t watched it since. We love and appreciate Milo and Kida, but there is room for breaking off from the original. We’re not beholden to it, and seeing Holland take to the screen in big round glasses? That’s sure going to be interesting.
To be quite honest, you could put Holland as the star of any feature film, and people are going to go out and see the internet’s boyfriend shine. Still, there is something that feels so promising about him playing Milo in Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
