“Try” by Colbie Caillat

Perhaps one of the greatest anthems of female empowerment of the last 10 years has to be Colbie Caillat’s “Try.” With a music video that shows us the wide variety of women in this world, no matter your size or skin color or even age, it is clear that there is even more to this song than just its lyrics.

“Try” is truly motivational when it comes to being a reminder that all women are perfect as they are. Over the course of our lives, we do everything in our powers to change who we are in order to make ourselves look good for other people. And as the lyrics, “Why, should you care, what they think of you,” points out, we don’t need to care about those people who want us to change who we are.

We are always trying to meet some unrealistic expectations set for us by someone else, but as Caillat reminds us, we don’t need to do that. We can accept who are and make it clear to anyone who judges us that we are happy with our self.

As women, we are perfect just the way we are, and this song acts as reminder of that. While we shouldn’t need to be reminded of this, there are always self doubts that try to bring us down. And with “Try,” we get a song that truly gives us the inspiration and sense of empowerment we need to make sure we accept how perfect we are as individuals.
