Style Diaries: How to dress like Mindy Kaling

Skinny jeans can be a style staple. And while some women with curves might think these jeans are not the right choice for them, the reality is that they can actually look amazing.
As someone with a curvy figure, I adore my skinny jeans because I can dress them up or down. They are perfect for going out for drinks, going to brunch, or even running errands. And while the idea of “skinny jeans” being comfortable may seem weird, they really can be so much easier to wear than the name implies.
Much like Mindy Kaling dressed her skinny jeans up with a nice, flowy, crepe top and heels, we think you can do the exact same thing with your own skinny jeans. And while jeans can get expensive, we have found some options that are actually rather budget friendly.
The first pair of skinny jeans I recommend come from Dress Barn. These are my personal go-to jeans when I want to feel a bit more put together and even professional. The Signature Fit Perfect Ankle Jeans come in a dark wash and always look good, whether dressing them up or down. And at a regular $24.99, you won’t feel guilty snagging a pair.
Another amazing pair of skinny jeans comes from Torrid, which seems to know how to make women of all sizes look fabulous in denim. The store’s Bombshell Skinny Jean in Dark Wash really do make any woman look like a bombshell (in the very best ways). And while these are a bit more expensive at $74.90, they are still rather budget friendly, especially when the store runs one of their sales.
For the top, we think a gauzy style works well to capture the feel of Kaling’s own, which is why I like the Black Gauze Button Front Smocked Babydoll Blouse from Torrid. Not only does it have a luxury feel thanks to the shimmer throughout, but at $48.90, it is still budget friendly.
Whether you throw on a pair of heels like Kaling did or opt for flats, these pieces together or separate will become staples of your wardrobe.
