Fed Up

Where to stream: Amazon Prime

The Amazon Prime streamable documentary, Fed Up, is one that any health-nut will enjoy. Written, directed, and produced by Stephanie Soechtig, Fed Up talks about the problems we are facing because of the number of processed foods we, as a society, are consuming.

Processed foods contain high amounts of sugar. And, the film focuses on how this common high-sugar diet causes many illnesses such as obesity and diabetes, as well as addiction to sugar, especially in children and teens.

Sugar makes the world go ’round economically with big businesses cashing in on the rising sugar addiction sweeping the country. Therefore, there were many companies that refused to comment for the film, which may even speak louder than words, as Soechtig includes the names of these companies at the end of her documentary.

One of the major points learned from this film is that our idea that exercise can solve the obesity problem in our country is not entirely true. The old theory suggests that as long as the calories that go in go out, all will be balanced. But, the truth is that diet is the greatest factor of all. And, not all calories are the same. A handful of healthy nuts may be the same amount of calories as a candy bar, but what they do to your body is entirely different. The foods you eat change everything from weight loss to skin clearing, to your mood.

If you are someone who has fought with weight loss, then this documentary might just give you the fire you need to start a new healthy diet including whole foods and concentrated meal-prep.
