While Bran’s council met at the end of the episode, Sam presented Tyrion with the book A Song of Fire and Ice, saying that he helped come up with the title.
Everyone should have loved this Easter egg, right? It’s the George R. R. Martin book series that Game of Thrones gets its name from. This name-drop definitely felt like a bit of fan service, and a way for the writers to say, “Hey, after all that bad stuff, this is cool… right?”
All in all, this certainly wasn’t a necessary addition to the plot by no means, but it was a fun reference to the series that started it all. We wonder if the finale chapters are called “The Bells” and “The Iron Throne.”
