These quotes from Game of Thrones perfectly capture the final episode of the series. From funny to just plain sad, here are the best lines from the series finale.

Warning: This story contains spoilers for all episodes in Game of Thrones’ eighth season.

For a series that was completely winging it after catching up to George R.R. Martin’s novels, we have to admit: the Game of Thrones writers did a great job at creating lines for some of our favorite characters. Now, the writing of the entire season is a whole is a different story, but at least the clever dialogue was still there.

The finale episode, in particular, had a mix of humorous, witty and down-right emotional quotes. Scenes like Jon’s farewell led to some of the more emotional lines in the script, while Bran’s council meeting somehow led to the more sillier moments of the show. (Just get Tyrion, Bronn, Brienne, and Ser Davos in a room, and you’re bound to get some hilarious dialogue out of them, of course.)

Surprisingly, though, none of the best quotes in this episode came from Daenerys Targaryen. As the temporary Queen of Westeros, you’d think she would have said something to keep in the books. But alas, no. Her speech has been compared to the speech Khal Drogo gives his men in season 1, but there aren’t enough similarities to specifically say that it’s a callback to his speech.

Aside from the wasted potential with Daenerys, other characters had plenty to say — including one scene where Jon and Tyrion came up with enough quotes to fill a book. And so, read on to see who had the absolute best lines of the series finale of Game of Thrones (an honor only a few characters have the privilege of getting.)
