Daenerys
"You can say nothing. To anyone, ever. Never tell them who you really are. Swear your brother and Samwell Tarly to secrecy, and tell no one else. Or it will take on a life of its own and you won’t be able to control it or what it does to people. No matter how many times you bend the knee, no matter what you swear. I want it to be the way it was between us."
Okay, technically this isn’t a changing of loyalty, but it’s definitely a solidification that Daenerys is loyal to herself and only herself. Back when Jon first revealed his parentage to Daenerys in episode 2 this season, things got cut short when the horns sounded out for war. Daenerys acknowledged if what Jon was saying was true, he’d be the real heir to the throne.
That short exchange would best be summarized as the hilarious John Mulaney quote: “Now, we don’t have time to unpack all of that.” But now, come episode 4, we did.
Daenerys has always been a bad*ss from the moment we first saw her. However, there was a sense of legitimate fear in her face as she realized what could happen if the cat was out of the bag. People were already cheering Jon on for being a war hero. What’s stopping them from supporting him for the throne at this rate?
Daenerys still seems confident that it’s just her against Cersei for the throne. But Jon is now the silent contender lurking in the shadows — no matter how much he honestly doesn’t care to be king.
With no one 100 percent changing loyalties this episode, it’s likely we may see some hardcore twists and changes come episode 5. Who do you think will be the one to change their support?
Game of Thrones continues next Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
