Game of Thrones season 8 episode 2: The most memorable quotes
By Mia Johnson
You bet Game of Thrones’ second episode of season 8 was filled with lots of drama and comedy. From Arya to Tormund, here are the best quotes from this week’s episode.
Warning: This story contains spoilers for the second episode of Game of Thrones’ eighth season.
Can we give it up to Game of Thrones for being easy on our hearts this episode? If anything, they’re probably taking it easy on us so we can gear up for whatever happens during next week’s episode. But overall, episode 2 of season 8 was filled with some fun, sassy and dramatic moments that fans enjoyed.
We start off not wasting a moment from last week’s episode with Jaime Lannister on trial. And who is there to save him but Brienne of Tarth? Jaime will remember that later. We go into more plot development as things go on, with Sansa and Daenerys having a moment to discuss the throne, and Arya and Gendry starting to heat things up.
But through it all, the MVP of the night had to be Tormund, who returned to Winterfell after the White Walkers breached the wall. Sure, he was happy to reunite with Jon Snow. But he’s got one thing and one thing only on his mind: Brienne of Tarth. It seems like during the perils of war, there’s still time to find love. And, truly, Tormund embodied that idea through this episode.
Tormund, of course, had some of the best lines in this episode. But we have to give it up to the others this week who proved the tongue is sharper than the sword.
"Bran on Jaime Lannister telling his sob story while on trial: The things we do for love."
"Sansa, when Brienne steps up for Jaime: Would you fight beside him?Brienne: I would."
"Gendry warns Arya about that impending threat is pure death.Arya: I know death. He’s got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one."
"Jaime, upon visiting Bran “The Three-Eyed Raven” Stark: What’s afterward?Bran: How do you know there is an afterward?"
"Brienne, spending some time with Jaime: We have never had a converseation this long without you insulting me. Not once.Jaime: You me to insult you?"
"Sansa having some one-on-one time with Daenerys: We defeat Cersei, then what happens?Daenerys: I take the Iron Throne."
"Tormund, after reuniting with Jon: The big woman still here?"
"Tormund, fraternizing with everyone around the fire: It could be our last night in this world, you know.Brienne (sarcastically): Yes, and I’m glad that you’re here."
"Jaime, as Brienne has now been knighted: Arise, Brienne of Tarth, knight of the Seven Kingdoms!"
"Jon, to Daenerys in the crypt: My name, my real name… is Aegon TargaryenDaenerys: That’s impossible.Jon: I wish it were."
There were lots of great lines this week, but with the war knocking on Winterfell’s doorstep, we’ll see if anyone gets as many funny and sassy lines in the next episode. There’s no time to chat when you’re in the middle of battle.
