5 things we learned from The 100’s new season 6 trailer

A new trailer for the sixth season of The 100 has dropped, and it answers some of the burning questions posed during the first trailer.

With the sixth season of The CW’s The 100 premiering in just a little over a week, fans are eager for more insight into what the new season will be about. While we can assume it’ll cover themes of survival and morality, the fifth season left us on quite the cliffhanger. Fans have an entirely new planet to explore, on top of all of the betrayals and tensions the last season left us with.

And although the first trailer for season 6 gave viewers a bit of new information regarding what’s to come, it left most of us with more questions about the new season than answers. Thankfully, a second trailer dropped this week, and it answered some of those burning questions we had.

Watch the new season 6 trailer here:

Here are five things we learned from the The 100′s new trailer.

There are eight people on the “exploratory team” heading to Sanctum.

It was clear that Clarke and Bellamy wouldn’t wake everyone up or send all of their people down to a new planet without checking things out for themselves first. Fans knew there would be a small group heading down to the new world to explore it, but the new trailer shows us exactly who will be partaking in that mission.

The beginning of the trailer shows eight people on the “exploratory team,” all of them exiting a ship in a clip eerily reminiscent of Eligius’ landing during the fifth season. The team includes Clarke, Bellamy, Echo, Murphy, Emori, Zeke, Miller, and Jackson. It’s probably safe to assume that Raven’s awake too, but she usually winds up staying behind in case her friends get themselves into trouble. There’s also a brief clip of Raven waking up Diyoza, further backing up that point.

The trailer also shows the exploratory team wandering around Sanctum, giving fans some more clues about what’s in store for our heroes on this new planet Monty discovered.

Their ship is getting hijacked.

During the clip of Raven waking Diyoza from cryosleep, Raven declares that their ship has been hijacked. There are a few images of people in space suits entering the ship that follow this, and then the trailer returns to Sanctum and the people living there. It’s strange that their ship would be hijacked after so many years being in space, but that might have something to do with their proximity to the new planet.

If that’s the case, it’s also probably a safe bet that whoever is hijacking our heroes’ ship is from the new planet. The two trailers we’ve seen so far indicate that there may be different factions living down there, so the real question we’re left with is, which one is coming onboard?

Knowing The 100, whoever it is won’t be friendly. Hopefully, Raven and Diyoza will be able to work together to get the situation under control.

Bellamy and Clarke will bond over their “children.”

Bob Morley and Jason Rothenberg confirmed during an interview with TV Guide that Bellamy and Clarke will need to work on their relationship during season 6. Their trust in one another has reached new lows after last season, and they’ll need to face the past in order to rebuild the friendship they once had.

But  the new trailer for season 6 shows one way that Bellamy and Clarke might be able to bridge their differences: by bonding over their “children.” Fans know that Bellamy has always considered himself Octavia’s guardian—until she threw him into the fighting pits, at least. And it’s obvious that Clarke views Madi as her daughter.

During the trailer, Clarke laments that Madi never had a “normal” childhood, saying, “I wish Madi could have gone to school.” Bellamy responds by saying that he wishes Octavia could have, too. It’s a touching moment between the two of them, and while it doesn’t offer much about the overall sixth season, it does suggest that the two of them will eventually get their relationship back.

People are definitely unhappy with Octavia.

From the end of season 5 and the first trailer for season 6, most fans surmised that Octavia’s people weren’t too happy with her going into the new season. But the second trailer for this season demonstrates just how angry Wonkru is with their former leader—and things are worse than we imagined.

Not only do we get the same clip of Octavia admitting that she is, in fact, a monster, but the new trailer shows Octavia defending herself, asserting, “Everything I did, I did for my people.” She punches someone during the same scene, highlighting the tensions between her and the rest of the group.

Even Diyoza is exasperated by Octavia at this point, and from the blue lighting of the clip, fans can assume that’s who Diyoza is speaking to when she says, “They were withdrawing. Why would you attack?” Things are pretty bad when Diyoza is questioning the morality behind your decisions.

There’s also a worrisome moment at the very end of the trailer, showing a bloodied Octavia with a knife to her throat. The man holding the knife declares that “the queen is dead” before the shot fades out, leaving fans to wonder whether Octavia’s life might be in greater danger this season than it was back when she was Blodreina.

Clarke might wind up disappointing Monty.

Okay, so most of us knew that Clarke wouldn’t be able to “be the good guy” forever. For starters, that would mean the end of The 100. Being a decent person is admirable IRL, but it doesn’t make for a very compelling fictional narrative.

Still, no one could have predicted that Clarke would embrace being the bad guy eventually. She spends so much of the first trailer for season 6 insisting that she and her people can change, but the ending of this trailer shows a new side of her. It’s unclear who she’s speaking to during the clip, but she tells them, “Is that what you want to hear? That I’m the bad guy? Fine. I’ll be the bad guy.” And she looks almost relieved to admit it.
