Project Runway season 17 episode 6 live stream: Watch online

Get your controllers ready. Project Runway episode “Power Play” is about to channel its powerful women’s game-winning personas.

In this week’s Project Runway episode, the designers tackle unusual design channel. While inspiration can come from almost anywhere, this week’s episode looks to take on a new design arena, video games. As the line between the real world and the virtual world starts to blur, could these powerful women character’s designs inspire real women’s confidence?

According to Bravo, this week’s episode synopsis for “Power Play” states:

"The designers take on the virtual world of fashion in this video game challenge. Three women breaking ground in the multi-billion dollar industry visit the runway, helping the designers understand how clothing for powerful women works in video games! Inspired, the designers each create their own female video game protagonists with a functional and stylish look fabulous enough to earn them an extra life in the competition."

While the Project Runway designers have been tasked to create all types of looks, this idea is a little different. Although aspects of video games do influence the real world, these looks might be a little non-traditional for the real world.

Looking at some of the preview videos, it seems that a few designers might be a little stuck on color choice. While red is considered a power color, other colors can denote strength. Wouldn’t it be wise to choose a color that stands out versus one that blends in with the crowd?

Also, one preview clip seemed to show a character with a cape. Didn’t Edna Mode say that capes were a poor choice for a superhero? Granted, these designs aren’t meant for Sunday brunch, but do heroes really need capes?

Given Kovid’s elimination last week, the remaining designers need to be aware that concepts need to translate into a fully conceived look. Creativity for creativity sake could land even a popular designer in the bottom.
