The Doom Patrol takes on a new mission this week, which will probably distract them from helping Cliff and finding Niles.

There are layers to Doom Patrol. The show has horror, tragedy, comedy, and family fun. Even though the heroes aren’t convinced they’re a team or heroes, they’ve still consistently helped others, the world, and killed a lot of Nazis. So, they’ve been steadily bolstering their heroic repertoire. For “Danny Patrol,” a living street will try to recruit Niles Caulder to help them, but they’ll get the Doom Patrol itself. Good thing for everyone involved (including us, the viewers), Danny is just a strange as the rest of the Doom Patrol.

Like the namesake team, Danny the Street has a cult following. Given that we’re apart of the niche fandom, we’re glad to see them debut on the DC Universe series. As expected even with a comic book television series that’s still devoted to its comic book ancestry, the series will introduce some twists with Danny the Street’s backstory.

Thanks to Warner Bros. Television, the Doom Patrol episode 8 synopsis gives us some insight into a new character, who we already hope will become a recurring team member:

"A sentient, gender-queer, teleporting street named Danny who’s being hunted by a secret government agency, the Bureau of Normalcy, needs help from Niles – but gets Vic and Larry instead.  Meanwhile, Cliff and Rita track down Karen, one of Jane’s personalities, who’s a hopeless romantic with the power to compel people to fulfill her wishes."

While there are a lot of Doom Patrol issues and separate runs to remember — all of which are complete with their unique set of recurring characters, offshoot characters, and oddities, we don’t remember a comic version of the Bureau of Normalcy. Meaning, we might get another round of unique storying telling in some classic tales. After all, Jane did create a new cult and a new apocalypse-stopping deity, with some guidance from Mr. Nobody of course, so can anticipate virtually anything on the show.

The comic incarnations originally helped Danny fend off the Vectra; however, the show could easily swap out the Vectra with the Bureau of Normalcy, who we already detest based on their title alone. Danny and another one of Jane’s alter might be namedropped in the synopsis, but they probably aren’t the only new characters to debut in “Danny Patrol.”

At Wonder Con, Doom Patrol producer Jeremy Carver mentioned that Flex Mentallo will appear on the series. Heroic Hollywood adds that Carver didn’t specify when Flex will debut on the show. However, we have a suspicion that Mentallo might have a cameo in the Danny-centric episode this week. After all, Flex debuted in the comic scene shortly after Danny the Street was introduced, and we think the muscle man’s live-action counterpart could have a similar introduction method.

In the concluding moments of last week’s episode, Jane walked out of Doom Manor because of her and Cliff’s argument. Seeing as Admiral Whiskers tampers with Cliff emotions in “Therapy Patrol,” Robotman wasn’t exactly feeling like his usual self. Given the team’s pattern of splitting either by accident or necessity, we can assume the dysfunctional family will split into a couple of smaller teams to find Jane and to help Danny. Maybe the living street will find part of the Doom Patrol while they’re on a recon mission to find Jane, who’s currently Karen in the episode.

Regardless of how Danny the Street and the titular pseudo-team will meet, we’re excited to see some new characters on the series.
