The Walking Dead season 9 finale live stream: Watch online

If you thought last week’s episode of The Walking Dead destroyed you, just wait for the tension in the season finale this week.

Continuing from the monumental loss last week, The Walking Dead season finale focuses on “The Storm” after the calm. We see what the series did with the episode titles the last couple of weeks, and we’re not mad about it. However, we’re less than calm after the televised iteration of the pike scene, but we’re ready for “The Storm.” Well, we’re at least as ready as we’ll ever be for the first blizzard in the show’s history.

Winter is finally here, which means season 9, episode 16 will create a lot of new drama and obstacles for the survivors to overcome. With the season finale upon us, we can expect a healthy amount of revelations about the group, walkers, and the Whisperers. Before we watch the Kingdom and company fight a storm and navigate some dangerous terrains filled with wintry walkers and pseudo-walkers, we’re still reeling from last week’s episode. Fortunately, the social media manager for The Walking Dead knows it.

It’s only fitting that after spending multiple seasons destroying us emotionally, The Walking Dead would spoof the MCU’s tearful marketing campaign. After all, TWD season 9 has been preparing us for those similarly devastating moments in Avengers: Endgame. While the season finale will force us to relive the beheadings from last week (via the group’s grieving processes), we might have to worry about more than the forecasted tears and snowfall.

As AMC’s synopsis of “The Storm” suggests, our favorite survivors will have to deal with some less than agreeable characters in their company:

"In the aftermath of an overwhelming loss, the communities must brave a ferocious blizzard; as one group deals with an enemy from within, another is forced to make a life or death decision."

This week’s episode just got more ominous. Based on the preview of The Walking Dead finale, the “enemy from within” could be Lydia. However, her poignant scene with Carol during the trailer suggests that Lydia might have more of a self-sacrificing arc in the finale (or at least an attempted selfless arc). Instead, we suspect Negan might be the vague enemy referenced in the synopsis.

Based on “The Calm Before,” we already know The Walking Dead isn’t opposed to unique spins on comic book arcs. Choosing between a war against the Whisperers and finding shelter through a blizzard is going to be a pivotal decision for the Kingdom and company, and Negan’s affiliation with the Whisperer War arc could start to unfold on the season finale. The enemy within the group could become a reformed ally during the blizzard and beyond.

War is imminent. Because the survivors need to survive the blizzard, they’ll have to navigate the Whisperers’ territory and break the treaty that Alpha forced upon them. The finale might start the Whisperer War, but it will be an extended battle, and we’re already bracing for the storm this week.
