Miley Cyrus – “Malibu”

When it comes to Miley Cyrus’ music, the singer has no problem talking about her inspiration. Her Younger Now album is definitely all about breaking up and getting back together, which is really the narrative she has with her then fiance, Liam Hemsworth. One song in particular, “Malibu,” is said to be truly inspired by Hemsworth and after an interview with Howard Stern, we know a lot more about what went into the song.

Not only is it about the rekindling of their relationship, but after Cyrus and Hemsworth broke up, it seems that he tried to start over and get away from her. That led to him buying a house in Malibu, but what he didn’t know at the time was that it was the same house Miley Cyrus lived in and recorded her first album after Hannah Montana.

The seller didn’t want Liam Hemsworth to back out of the sale so he apparently hid all of the things from that time in the garage, and it wasn’t until the actor was moving in that he learned the truth. Basically, he was simply unable to escape his ex. Lucky for us he didn’t because not only are they back together, but they are now married, and we are here for their love story.

We love the romance of “Malibu” and the fact that Cyrus was able to be so free and reflective in the song. As far as inspiration goes, we think this is one of our favorite stories, right up there with John Legend’s “All of Me.” Anytime we can get a heartfelt song of love and forgiveness we are in, and that is exactly what “Malibu” is at its core.
