The fair is nearly here, and we all know what that means. We’re not ready to say goodbye to anyone, but clearly Alpha has other intentions.

The fair is almost here, and we’re very scared. Before we officially see Alpha use a pocket-sized guillotine on the Hilltop-Alexandria-Kingdom extended communities, we also know that winter is coming. While The Walking Dead “The Calm Before” implicitly refers to Alpha’s violent fury, it also refers to the upcoming blizzard, as mentioned in the season finale’s synopsis. As we wait to see some wintery conflict, we’re more preoccupied with what Alpha’s deal is (literally and rhetorically).

Alpha is warming up her beheading hands a least a few non-Whisperers either at the end of episode 15 or in the season finale next week. However, she isn’t the only one heating up or at least trying to. In the AMC trailer for episode 15, Daryl is filmed wearing what appear to be wool winter gloves, so we can tell it’s growing colder. Like the first visible winter season of the series changing the apocalyptic survival game, Alpha’s meddling also changes a lot for the group beyond just messing up the fair.

According to AMC’s synopsis of “The Calm Before,” the fair officially starts this week and we’re absolutely terrified for our favorite characters:

"The fair at the Kingdom is underway, with all four communities coming together in celebration for the first time in years; while some pacts are renewed, other deals will come at a much steeper price."

From the extended “The Calm Before” trailer, we can already assume at least one of the Hilltop community members will meet their ultimate demise as the series wraps up this season. After all, the Whisperers did ambush a Hilltop wagon. We’re too distraught to think about any comic book parallels now or in the future, even though we know we have to face the reality that the upcoming storms are going to be deadly.

Clearly, Alpha just hates fairs and fun in general. These adorable photos of King Ezekiel’s late-minute fair prep and Michonne and Judith’s bonding time might be the scarce happy clips from this week’s episode. And, we’re going to cling to these memories while we prepare for another emotional episode. At least there’s a positive side to all this haunting Red Herring promo, right?
