Titans is really boosting their second season in a major way. One week after announcing Deathstroke was joining the show, we learned that his son Jericho is now coming too.
The second season of Titans on the DC Universe is shaping up to be even better than the first. Not only is the show introducing Esai Morales as Deathstroke, but now we have learned that it’s going to be bringing in the character’s son, Jericho, as well.
According to DC Universe, Slade Wilson’s son, Joseph, who is also known by the name Jericho in the comics, will be joining the cast. This is not the first time the character of Jericho has made his way on to our screens, as he has even been a part of the Arrowverse. On Arrow, the character was made to be more like his violent brother Grant; in the comics, Jericho is a much gentler person.
In terms of his powers, Jericho is able to use eye contact in order to possess a person. At one point he was actually a member of the Teen Titans. If the show decides to stay true to the comic origins, we could definitely see some fireworks in season 2, especially if father and son go head to head.
For now, we don’t know how Titans will introduce the character or if it will actually remain true to the comics in terms of his personality, but what we do know is who will be playing the character. The series has cast Chella Man as Jericho.
The casting of Man is something we are really excited about. The model and artist is transgender and deaf, which means the series is giving some true representation in its casting decisions. While the fact that he is transgender has no bearing on the character per se, the fact that he is Deaf will hopefully be explored in some way, particularly considering that the character description that Titans released explains that Jericho is “mute after his father failed to rescue him from having his vocal cords severed by assassins.” In the comics, he typically uses ASL as well, as Man notes in his own post.
The description also reminds us that, “this gentle natured yet proud hero has proven himself a formidable Titan,” which certainly makes it seem like we are going to have an interesting story on our hands in season 2. Having Jericho join the Titans might be exactly what this team needs, especially when you think about the fact the show is also bringing Superboy into the mix as well.
I can’t wait to see what Titans decides to do with Jericho and Deathstroke’s story line. The fact that production is giving us both of these iconic comic book characters is a sign of impressive things to come. And if the series gives us more of what we remember from the comics, then we know we are in for a wild ride.
What do you think of Titans bringing Jericho in for the second season? Do you think he will/would be a good addition to the team? Tell us what you think in the comments.
