Shadowhunters season 3B premiere live stream: Watch online

Tonight, what could be The Final Hunt begins – and we’re picking up right where we left off.

It’s been nine long months, but tonight Jonathan Morgenstern is officially reborn. You have to wonder if the Shadowhunters writers did that intentionally.

After an agonizingly long hiatus, the hit Freeform show is back tonight to begin season 3B, its final episodes ever. The premiere is titled “Lost Souls” and is set to pick up right where the finale left us. So let’s refresh what went down last time we visited the Shadow World.

The soul that’s been lost appears to be Clary, as she and Jonathan were both blown away in the blast created by Lilith’s attack on Simon. The Mark of Cain also took Lilith out of the equation, at least temporarily. Remember, you can’t destroy a Greater Demon. So at least for tonight, Lilith is securely back in Edom.

Of course, thanks to the Season 3B trailer, we know that neither Clary nor Jonathan are actually dead. Where exactly they are is unclear. But in the Shadowhunters world, nobody knows what we as viewers know. According to Freeform’s official synopsis, they’ll all be in mourning:

"In the emotional midseason premiere, everyone is dealing with the loss of Clary and are trying to move on best they can. Unbeknownst to them, the Shadowhunters face a new level of evil that they can’t even imagine with the arrival of Jonathan Morgenstern."

On top of grief, there will likely be a whole lot of guilt. Considering that his Mark is the apparent cause of his best friend’s death — even if Clary did tell him to use it — odds are pretty good that Simon will be having a rough go of things.

Realistically, there’s no one to blame but Lilith, but Jace won’t see it that way either. After all, as Lilith’s Owl, he killed a bevy of people and brought Clary to Lilith himself. Given his feelings for her, he’ll be struggling just as much as Simon. Thankfully, Lilith’s hold over Jace was broken in the finale.

SHADOWHUNTERS – “Erchomai” – In the climactic mid-season finale, the team scrambles to find a way to put a stop to Lilith’s plan coming to fruition. But going up against their biggest opponent yet, their odds are not looking good. Meanwhile, Simon makes a heartbreaking choice with Isabelle’s help and Magnus reconnects with a powerful person from his past. It’ll be a rocky start to the show’s final episodes, but then again, life as a Shadowhunter is never exactly easy.
