Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell has shown us that even someone who stars in a show called The Good Place can end up in The Bad Place every now and again. Bell teamed up with the Child Mind Institute recently and revealed that she’s dealt with depression and anxiety since she was 18 years old. She feels strongly about how we treat one another, often noting that you never know who among us is struggling with an internal battle. She wants to make sure that these issues are never ignored and that it’s okay to seek help.

In an essay she wrote for Time magazine, she writes about how she’s changed a lot throughout her career. “I didn’t speak publicly about my struggles with mental health for the first 15 years of my career,” she writes. “But now I’m at a point where I don’t believe anything should be taboo.”

She goes on to explain how her mother sat her down at the age of 18 and made it clear that “if there ever comes a time where you feel like a dark cloud is following you, you can get help.” She writes that mental health check-ins should be as common as going to the dentist and that it is just as important as physical health.

We’ll leave you with another quote: “Don’t be fooled by this game of perfection that humans play.”
