There’s a long-awaited war coming to The Walking Dead. Granted, it might not officially start in episode 10, “Omega,” but we will learn more about the Whisperers.

Last week, The Walking Dead midseason premiere, gave us an official look at the Whispers. Like the increasing survival methods foreshadowed the group’s latest archenemy in “Adaptation,” this week’s episode focuses on the hierarchy of leadership, both within Hilltop and the Whisperers.

If you’re familiar with The Walking Dead comics, then you already know that Beta, one of Alpha’s underlings, has a knack for violence and disorder. We won’t go into detail about Beta or Alpha yet because we know that comics can be expensive and difficult to come by depending on where you live, so we’ll leave any spoilers to our reviews.

Judging the by the title alone, this week’s The Walking Dead episode will probably focus on a Whisperer who works under the leader, Alpha. Given the Whisperers’ kill or be killed philosophy with everyone, we won’t hold out hope that any Omega, in this case, will help the Hilltop survivors.

According to the AMC preview of “Omega,” the survivors at Hilltop already found out that Alden and Luke are missing. Here’s the synopsis:

"A group of Hilltoppers find Alden and Luke’s horses but no sign of Alden and Luke."

Given Hilltop’s protective nature, we can probably assume at least one person in the group will try to track down Alden and Luke. Whether the Whisperers inevitably killed the two or helped the captive at the end of episode 9, Alden and Luke probably haven’t received much hospitality from the group of walker mask-wearing survivors. Anyone who tries to find them will likely befall their same ambiguous fate.

Seeing as the Whisperers’ on-screen motives are still a wildcard for the season, Alden and Luke are currently the Schrödinger’s cats of the series. Even if we presume that they’re dead, the alternative might not be any better because the Whisperers aren’t above using people as leverage. Despite their chaotic nature, we’re still excited to look inside the Whisperers’ horde of faux-walkers.
