Emma Frost and the Stepford Cuckoos

Clones are a well-worn trope in comics and overall pop culture media, but we’re not complaining. Albeit creepy, the Stepford Cuckoos have a strange introduction into X-Men lore, and a similarly weird relationship with the powerful psionic sometimes-hero, Emma Frost.

While Emma was in a coma after her fight with a Sentinel, a nefarious organization extracted some ova cells from her and used those to make multiple clones of the powerful telepath. Shortly after the clones (i.e. the Stepford Cuckoos) were born, they became Emma Frost’s mentees, and Emma developed a pseudo motherly role with them as well. (Which is fitting, given their strange origin.)

The five Cuckoos (which later dissolved into only three) have typically followed Emma’s ever-changing alignment. While we enjoyed most of Emma’s role in the X-Men lore (other than that time she tried to commit genocide against the Inhumans), we prefer Emma and the Stepford Cuckoos as a villainous family.
