Wonder Woman of the Week: Angela Bassett

The Wonder Woman of the Week this week is Angela Bassett, one of this year’s Women in Hollywood cover stars, Queen Ramonda herself, and a legend.

Angela Bassett really stole all of our hearts when she played the powerful, poised, and graceful Queen Ramonda in Black Panther. While we don’t know when she will be returning to that role for the sequel, we hope that she will sooner rather than later. We are also relieved that the character, along with her daughter Shuri, survived the Thanos snap. It hasn’t been confirmed if Queen Ramonda will show up at all in Avengers 4, but we can always hope.

Bassett has also played some fascinating, powerful characters in American Horror Story including season 3’s Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. She also currently stars in another Ryan Murphy creation, 9-1-1, which is currently in its second season on Fox.

Elle revealed this week that Bassett, along with Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira, will be featured on the cover of the magazine for their Women in Hollywood issue. This got us thinking about how much we love Bassett, as well as her Black Panther co-stars. Since we haven’t honored her yet as a Wonder Woman of the Week, we figured it was her turn.

Honestly, she’s having a popular week when it comes to magazine covers. She is also being featured on a cover of Allure‘s November issue. She is looking gorgeous and strong on the cover and in the featured images from the article. We can’t wait to read the piece.

We are sure that Bassett will have lots of insights and words of wisdom.

According to Look to the Stars, Bassett is also involved in a variety of charitable causes and activist circles. She is a supporter of many programs for the arts as well as an Ambassador of UNICEF. Bassett has supported any charities for diverse causes including the Human Rights Campaign, Habitat for Humanity, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

We aren’t surprised that she’s involved in so many great causes, and we are sure she will continue to do amazing work in the future.

While we have to say we are a bit disappointed that Marie Laveau isn’t going to be appearing alongside other witches from Coven in season 9 of American Horror Story, we will be looking forward to whatever new roles Bassett takes on in the future. And, also crossing our fingers that she will make more appearances in the MCU as Queen Ramonda. We wouldn’t mind seeing this character have a bigger part to play in future stories about Wakanda. She could definitely play a role in a Shuri spinoff, for example, and Bassett herself agrees.
