Angela Bassett thinks Shuri should definitely get her own spinoff
Angela Bassett talked once again about her beloved Shuri, this time advocating that her on-screen daughter gets her own spinoff.
Angela Bassett is an actress with many talents, and she has secured herself a spot in nerd fandom when she appeared as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther. With the fate of so many characters in the MUC left up in the air at the end of Infinity War, it’s nice to know that Bassett confirmed that Shuri and Queen Ramonda survived Thanos’ snap.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bassett was asked about a possible Black Panther sequel. According to her, there haven’t been any solid plans put in motion at this point in time, although a sequel is definitely still in the works for the future. She also talked about the possibility of other spinoffs of stories in Wakanda, immediately mentioning a Shuri-focused film. With other MCU characters slated to get their own series soon, many fans have been hoping for more movies or a television show centered around Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.
Bassett agrees that this would be a great idea.
“That would be wonderful,” Bassett expressed to THR. “We fell in love with that little girl. We fell in love with our daughter — with the princess.”
She then continued on to address Shuri’s age and how a possible spinoff would need to focus on her journey to find her way — and that she would need the help of her mother to do so.
“Shuri is still young, so she needs her mama’s touch and her mama’s words to keep her straight. But she’s a smart girl.”
Does this mean Angela Bassett would be down to play Queen Romonda in a Shuri movie or TV series? We think that a Shuri spinoff with a focus on Shuri’s relationship with her mother (and her brother) sounds amazing, so hopefully Bassett would be on board for this if it does come true.
Suffice to say, Marvel needs to get on this right away. They also need to get on that Black Panther sequel as fans are ready for that. To be honest, the more stories we can get about our favorite Wakandan characters, the better.
