Saturday Night Live season 44 episode 2 live stream: Watch online
By Mia Johnson
Coming off a fairly strong premiere episode, SNL is back with host Awkwafina and musical guest Travis Scott for its second episode in season 44. Here’s how you can watch.
The cries were unanimous that after Crazy Rich Asians became a commercial and a cultural success, we wanted to see more of the stars. Some rallied for the CRA lead, Constance Wu, to host Saturday Night Live this season. And while things haven’t panned out to include Wu, we will be getting her on-screen BFF, Awkwafina, hosting.
Believe it or not, Awkwafina will be the first Asian women to host in about 18 years. Hopefully, this will be something to spark change in SNL, which hasn’t even seen its first Asian cast member in the show’s 40-plus year history. Being a comedian herself, Awkwafina is likely to bring a lot of hilarious energy to the show Saturday night. And anyone who’s seen her in Crazy Rich Asians or anywhere else will know to expect that, too.
As for sketches, SNL has a lot of weight on its shoulders after the hugely popular Brett Kavanaugh cold open with Matt Damon. The YouTube clip has amassed well over 19 million views already, so the writers should know that a little star power mixed with current events will likely give good results. At the same time, we didn’t see Alec Baldwin appear as Trump last week, so him appearing is still a possibility as well.
One thing we do know is that Adam Driver’s talent was poorly utilized in his returning gig for the premiere. So here’s to hoping that Awkwafina truly gets some good laughs and screen time on this week’s episode.
