Saturday Night Live season 44 episode 1 live stream: Watch online
By Mia Johnson
Saturday Night Live is back for its season 44 premiere with host Adam Driver and musical guest Kanye West. Let’s just say, SNL has a lot to catch up with.
Much like Thomas Jefferson’s arrival in Hamilton, after four months away from television, Saturday Night Live is probably asking “What did I miss?” And where do we start? The satire giant has a lot of catching up to do on its premiere episode of season 44.
Perhaps host Adam Driver can get them up to speed on his and Spike Lee’s movie BlacKkKlansmen. Or maybe musical guest Kanye West can get them caught up on every face-palm inducing moment he’s ever created over the last few weeks. We can only wish the original musical guest, Ariana Grande, could have made it. But she had to cancel due to “emotional reasons.”
Needless to say, SNL has a lot of catching up to do. It’s likely Alec Baldwin will appear in the cold open as Trump, as he recently revealed he’ll continue to play the president on the show. And it seems without question — in one way or another — that they’ll tackle the recent Ford-Kavanaugh hearings. On top of that, SNL will likely remind us of some of the other huge news stories we seem to have forgotten in this fast-moving news cycle. Remember Michael Cohen pleading guilty? Or Trump’s North Korea meeting with Kim Jung-un? Yeah, it felt like years ago. But it all happened during SNL’s hiatus.
With so much to tackle in so little time, the SNL writers have plenty of material to use to make for one entertaining premiere. They also have a new featured cast member, Ego Nwodim, adding to the growing list of funny ladies poised to make Saturday Night Live funny again. (Okay, it’s always been decently funny. They just have to prove it to alumn Chevy Chase who recently slammed the show pretty hard).
