Jake Gyllenhaal as Spider-Man

While there have been multiple versions of Spider-Man on screen at this point, we have to say we are pretty partial to Tom Holland. However, other actors have left their mark as well including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

While Tom Holland has really integrated himself well into the Avengers world as we know it, back when Tobey Maguire was filming his Spider-Man trilogy, he suffered from back pain. He was reluctant to do the stunts needed for Spider-Man 2 because of this. The execs at Sony at the time decided to postpone the release date and met with Gyllenhaal about potentially taking over the role. Of course, that didn’t pan out and Maguire returned to the role for the next two movies in that trilogy.

Things have come somewhat full circle, however. He is debuted in the MCU as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. So, while he didn’t play Spider-Man, he was in a Spider-Man movie. This might not have been the heroic role that he was first in negotiations to play, but he instead played the classic villain Mysterio.
