Saying goodbye to Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe felt like we were graduating from high school and never going to see our friends ever again. Friends was a show that helped solidify the idea to us all that our family didn’t have to be blood.

Sure, there were storylines in Friends where their parents or siblings would come by but for the most part, this group of friends was there for each other through every life event. As the theme song states, “I’ll be there for you when the rain starts to fall” because they were each other’s family.

The show having the lights shut off on the apartment we had come to know as our second home was truly a heartbreaking moment for Friends fans. Everyone realized they couldn’t raise their families in New York City and were moving away from the lives they’ve known for years.

In a moment that was very much just a “poor Joey” instance, he lost all his friends at once and the entire ending of the show left audiences with a sense of loss that no other show has really mastered (with a few exceptions). Will we ever get that Friends reunion we’ve been teased about? Who knows? But at the end of the day, we miss our friends.
