How I Met Your Mother

Maybe the ending of How I Met Your Mother is sad for a completely different reason than any other show but still, it was sad to say the least. A show that brought us such joy ruined itself because they wanted to maintain a storyline that they should have just scrapped.

In the beginning, Ted Mosby was meant to fall in love with Robin. As the show went on, it was clear that the storyline was much better when Ted and Robin were best friends and Robin was in love with Barney.

Instead of airing the alternate ending, which should have truly been how the show ended, the showrunners decided that Ted would still end up with Robin and just killed off the mother of his children.

Was it a bad choice? Yes, because the alternate ending when Ted finally meets their mother is touching and sweet and what we had been waiting to see for years. To watch him meet her and then watch as she died was hurtful. The final season, which was all set around the wedding of Robin and Barney, then felt like a waste of time because, at the end of the day, she wasn’t going to end up with Barney.

So How I Met Your Mother is sad because just imagine how beautiful the ending would have been if Ted just finally met their mother.
