2014 – Guardians of the Galaxy

With all the drama surrounding James Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, we know it feels weird to discuss the first movie. But Guardians first film was the most popular movie of 2014. Turning Chris Pratt from a lovable goof on Parks and Recreation into a superhero didn’t seem plausible but it happened and Peter Quill, or Star-Lord, was a character we wanted to know more about.

Peter, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax all are trying to work together and against each other at the same time. Throughout the movie, this rag-tag group realizes that they could actually be a good team. Reluctantly, they become the Guardians of the Galaxy and, by the end of the movie, travel together throughout the stars.

One of the best parts of the movie is the music. Peter has mixtapes that his mother left him when she died and listening to them, he feels connected to her. Lucky for us, her music taste was incredibly retro and amazing.

It brought a different tone to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and most thought it wouldn’t be that successful. Clearly, those people didn’t know about the staying power of the Hollywood Chrises.
