1969 – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

The friendship between Robert Redford and Paul Newman was one that made us all realize just how beautiful men could be. No, really. They’re just two absolutely beautiful men who really loved each other. What’s not to be excited about?

That being said, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is important not only because it was an extremely popular movie in 1969 but also because this Western is the reason we have the Sundance Film Festival.

Redford, who played the Sundance Kid, named the festival after his famed role because this movie, like most movies on this list, is one that everyone has to see at least once.

Part of what makes this movie so great is that those two were at their prime. Would this movie be nearly as good if those two weren’t as hot as they were? Arguably yes, because the script is just as fantastic. Ultimately, there were multiple reasons people flocked to see this film in 1969 and still view it today.
