Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders confirmed to return in Spider-Man: Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home just got new cast members, but they aren’t new to the MCU. Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are set to return in the 2019 film.

It’s a rumor no more. Spider-Man: Far From Home is going to see some faces familiar to the MCU — faces that have been around since the very beginning. (And the faces of characters who should really be out of a job right now.)

Both Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are set to appear in the Spider-Man sequel, according to Vulture. A few weeks ago, we speculated that Samuel L. Jackson could appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home because of an Instagram photo he shared close to the Spider-Man set. While it could have been a coincidence that he was in the same area as the set, it seemed all too suspicious that he was showing off some of his Nick Fury props at the same time.

Speculation also arose about Cobie Smulders — not because of Smulders herself, but because of another new cast member who’s on board for the movie. Actor Numan Acar, who plays a character named Dimitri, apparently posted an Instagram photo using a few Spider-Man related hashtags including #CobieSmulders, but (assuming something went wrong) the caption was immediately changed with those hashtags removed.

Now that we know for sure that Fury and Maria Hill will be returning in Far From Home, it makes us wonder what their roles will be — especially with SHIELD being dismantled since Captain America: Winter Soldier. Although, seeing Fury with Hill in Infinity War gives us the feeling that the two are still covertly in business somehow.

With the growing number of tragedies taking place in the Marvel world, it’s likely only Fury and Hill truly know how to handle things. And given how young and naive Peter Parker is, we know he’ll need to have some guidance as he figures this whole superhero thing out.

The other elephant in the room, of course, is that Agent Hill, Nick Fury, and Peter Parker were all snapped away by Thanos in Infinity War. But whatever’s to come in Avengers 4, it should definitely pave the way for the characters in Far From Home.
