Mike fixes Boo’s door – Monsters, Inc.

As mentioned a few times now, Pixar loves to make us cry in, like, every single one of its movies. Most of the time it is sad moments that have tears running down our cheeks (a throwback to a few slides ago with Carl and Ellie), but every once in a while, one of the movies gives us a scene that is so light-hearted, we can’t help but tear up.

The ending of Monsters Inc. holds the trophy for making audiences cry with joy, as Mike surprises Sully with Boo’s reassembled door (that must have caused a lot of splinters). As soon as the red light comes on, you can’t help but gasp with excitement, even though we all saw it coming.

Sully’s soft questioning, “Boo?” followed by Boo’s loud, excited, “Kitty!” is one of the best endings in Pixar’s 20 years. These two go from foes to the greatest of friends, and they were finally reunited after being ripped apart — if that does not make you cry, I don’t know what will.

The prequel, Monsters University, is amazing in its own right, but there is no Boo and her Kitty for us to cry over. Pixar should probably consider giving us a sequel sometime in the future.
