Dazed and Confused

From the summer of 1963 to the summer of 1976! In Dazed and Confused, it’s the last day of school, and everyone celebrates a little differently. The new seniors are ready to party, but before that, they have a tradition to keep up with: paddling the fresh meat. They bring their homemade wooden paddles over to the middle school to swat all the incoming freshmen boys for their initiation into high school, just so they know what to expect in the new school year.

And it’s not just the boys who have to go through some hazing! The new freshmen girls are rounded up like cows and have pacifiers shoved in their mouths before being sprayed by water, ketchup, mustard, flour, and god knows what else. Then the very charitable senior girls bring them to clean off.. in a car wash.

When they’re not hazing the newbies, they’re skipping classes, smoking pot, and getting ready for a big party to celebrate the end of the school year. And did we mention the whole movie is set to a soundtrack of classic rock songs from the 1970s? It’s the perfect backdrop for a group of reckless teens riding around their boring town with nothing else to do but smash mailboxes (what? Is that not normal?).
