15 summer movies to watch with the comfort of your AC
Dirty Dancing
Nobody puts Baby in a corner… unless she’s curled up in a ball under her blankets watching a movie with her AC blasting.
Dirty Dancing is a timeless romantic drama about Baby, a good girl who is spending the summer of 1963 with her family at a resort in upstate New York. The privileged young girl has never strayed from the plan her parents had for her, which includes joining the Peace Corps after college and eventually settling down with a nice, rich doctor.
But when she falls for the brooding Johnny, the resort’s dance instructor who couldn’t be further from her world, her summer suddenly gets way more exciting. She manages to convince her father to give her money, which he doesn’t know is for Johnny’s partner’s illegal abortion to help them out. Then she fills in for the partner and spends her days secretly rehearsing — and falling in love — with Johnny.
Dirty Dancing is a classic tale of rich girl meets poor guy, and the two fall in love despite all the odds stacked against them. Baby is the rich girl who always listens to her daddy, but that summer she fell for the bad boy and completely broke free from the restraints she was comfortably living in for her entire life.
While your summer days may not be spent having a steamy, forbidden affair with a handsome, young Patrick Swayze, you can pretend you are while your devour a pint of Halo Top and spend a beautiful sunny day tucked away inside.
