50 First Dates

There’s nothing like a romantic comedy with a Hawaiian backdrop about a man who falls head over heels in love with a woman with short-term memory loss. Wait, what?

After Henry, a man who never thought he’d settle down with one woman, meets Lucy, the two fall for each other. Lucy wakes up the next day and forgets who he is, even though Henry still remembers and thinks that she’s the perfect girl for him. That’s when Henry realizes that Lucy has a problem where she forgets everything that happened the day before when she goes to sleep.

Even though this disease makes it hard for Henry to win Lucy over, he manages to find the perfect solution to their problem. Every morning, Lucy has to be reminded who Henry is. At the end of the movie (spoiler!), Henry makes a heartfelt video for Lucy to watch every day to fill her in on everything she forgot, from important moments in pop culture to the accident that caused her memory deficit and their wedding.

It’s a very romantic way of learning to cope with her illness, right?

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have made some great rom-coms together over the years, and this is definitely one of the best. To make it that much better, the movie takes place in Hawaii, the perfect setting to get lost in when you’re watching a movie. And it’s definitely a lot more light-hearted than Blue Crush is, even though it deals with a serious neurological issue.
