13. Ian Malcolm as a father

Ian Malcolm is an enigma. The entire series, you never really know what to expect from him. In Jurassic Park, he makes a comment about his ex-wife and his kids and, for the character we’re seeing before us, it is pretty surprising.

He’s depicted as a “rockstar” chaotician. So when we get to see him as an actual father in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, it gives a new layer to his character that didn’t exist in the original film. For instance, his lack of care about Tim and Lex is shocking as someone who is a father.

But then again, they’re not his kids and the movie is focusing more on Grant’s journey to discovering his fatherly intuition. Still though, when Malcolm ends up pulling the dad card on Kelly, it is a whole different character in a lot of ways.

He went from “daddy” to an actual father and honestly, it was a journey that most of us were very excited to go on. That being said, he does change quite a bit from the first movie to the second. So maybe being trapped on an island and almost dying because of dinosaurs really got to him but still, Poppa Ian is a sight to be seen.
