Westworld season 2 episode 9 live stream: Watch online

As usual, details on this week’s Westworld episode are vague. But with the season finale around the corner, we expect things to get very real.

Westworld just keeps getting better, doesn’t it? After a tentative beginning, season 2 kicked into high gear with the magnificently acted “The Riddle of the Sphinx”. Since then, it has heaped on surprises, from Shogun World to the return of Ford.

You could argue that we appear to be heading back to where we started. Did the show really need to drag out the mystery of the drowned hosts for a full season? But, as Ford might say, the pleasure of a story lies in the journey, not the destination. Westworld is often most mesmerizing when it is taking a detour, whether into a flashback or a monologue. In those moments, it breaks free from the loop of plot and simply explores.

Last week’s hour was one such instance. Focusing on Akecheta, the Ghost Nation leader played by Zahn McClarnon, “Kiksuya” turned a side character’s backstory into a moving, stunningly shot romance. Like Lost’s “The Constant”, another vignette in a mythology-heavy show, it was a series highlight.

So, “Vanishing Point” has a lot to live up to. The episode’s official synopsis doesn’t mean much on its own, but it sounds as ominous as the title:

"Try to kill it all away, but I remember everything."

The trailer provides slightly more information, teasing flashbacks to William’s ill-fated marriage to Juliet. At the end of “Kiksuya”, Grace took her father from Ghost Nation, promising to make him suffer. Could the line above be hers? We can’t imagine she’s in a forgiving mood, given that he ditched her last time she tried to reconcile.

Dolores also comes to mind. Since waking up, the host has retrieved all her memories, including of her time beyond the park. A reunion between her and the Man in Black seems inevitable, and we doubt it will be pretty. We can’t wait.
