The revelation that her mother is alive motivates Supergirl to rethink her life. Culturess has the information you need on tonight’s episode.

As the season finale draws closer, Supergirl continues to raise the stakes for its characters.

Last week, Kara accompanied Mon-El to the far reaches of outer space and made a surprising discovery there. Not only did a handful of Kryptonians manage to survive the destruction of their home planet, but Kara’s mother, Alura, was among them. After spending years marooned on Earth, she’s no longer alone in the universe; her dreams have come true, and this time, it’s not a parasite-induced delusion.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, things became dire. For a while, Reign remained safely imprisoned at L-Corp. However, this enabled her to develop a resistance to kryptonite, and she broke out. “Dark Side of the Moon” ended with the Worldkiller and Supergirl about to clash.

So, what happens now? Read below for the official plot synopsis of this week’s episode, titled “Not Kansas”:

"KARA CONSIDERS A MAJOR LIFE CHANGE – Kara (Melissa Benoist) makes a major life decision. Meanwhile, J’onn (David Harewood) finds out that special DEO-caliber guns have hit the streets of National City."

Although the synopsis keeps Kara’s “major life decision” vague, the episode preview teases a return to Argo City. It makes sense that Kara would feel the urge to spend time with her mom, while she still can; as she knows all too well, family time is not something to take for granted.

But leaving at this moment, with a Worldkiller on the loose, seems short-sighted, to say the least. What kind of superhero abandons their people at the hour of utmost need?
