Dancing with the Stars: Athletes season premiere live stream: Watch online
It’s time for a shortened version of the spring season of Dancing with the Stars. With only athletes competing, who will make the best first impression?
Unfortunately, while Dancing with the Stars is indeed back for the spring, we won’t have a full season to enjoy. Instead, we’re only getting what ABC is billing as a “4-week live event,” which means that there either won’t be a lot of improvement to see … or all of the athletes competing are just that good.
(It’s probably the former.)
From ABC’s press site, here are the dances we can expect to see tonight:
Cha Cha
"Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson: “Sissy that Walk” — RuPaulJosh Norman and Sharna Burgess: “Finesse” — Bruno MarsKareem Abdul-Jabbar and Lindsay Arnold: “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” — Stevie Wonder"
“Sissy that Walk” is not even RuPaul’s best song from the RuPaul’s Drag Race era, and how are we going to know where to purchase that song if Ru isn’t there to tell us how to do it? Of the three options here, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” is probably the best overall song — it’s a classic for a reason — but “Finesse,” even if it’s not the version featuring Cardi B, has the most potential for a showstopping number for Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess.
Foxtrot
"Jennie Finch Daigle and Keo Motsepe: “All-American Girl” — Carrie UnderwoodJohnny Damon and Emma Slater: “Centerfield” — John FogertyTonya Harding and Sasha Farber: “When You Believe” — Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey"
Oddly enough, it seems like almost everyone has a song that’s not directly related to their sport … except Johnny Damon. Is this a bad sign? Perhaps. We’ll just have to watch and see tonight. Meanwhile, Tonya Harding gets a Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston duet. Place your bets now on when she’ll dance, because she’ll probably be last with that number.
Salsa
"Arike Ogunbowale and Gleb Savchenko: “Them Girls” — Whitney MyerChris Mazdzer and Witney Carson: “Mr. Put It Down” — Ricky Martin feat. PitbullMirai Nagasu and Alan Bersten: “No Excuses” — Meghan Trainor"
Gleb Savchenko dancing salsa in the very first week of a new season of Dancing with the Stars is probably illegal. Oh, and his partner, Arike Ogunbowale, probably has a bit of a challenge with it — it’s not an easy Latin dance, and she probably had a smaller amount of training time compared to Mirai Nagasu and Chris Mazdzer.
Viennese Waltz
"Jamie Anderson and Artem Chigvintsev: “Feeling Good” — Avicii"
In serious commentary, being the only person in a dance category means you can really shine … but there’s also no one to do worse than you. Pair that with the song choice, and this could be a recipe for disaster.

Instead of voting for a Tuesday elimination, the first elimination will happen tonight at the end of the show — which means you can vote as you watch. Will this put the later dancers at a disadvantage?
