Shuri

For those of us who didn’t know much about the Black Panther mythology prior to the movie, Shuri is a relatively new character to us. And she is one that has helped change the way we view women and girls in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Shuri, the princess of Wakanda, has been labeled as the smartest person in the MCU. Yes, that means she’s smarter than both Peter Parker and Bruce Banner. Her technology could put Tony Stark’s to shame, and best of all, she’s a fully realized character.

A lot of the time, “smart” girls in fiction end up only being about their intelligence. They’re not fun, and they tend to be loners who would rather be with a computer. Shuri isn’t that way. She loves her brother and makes jokes from memes on the Internet. It’s important to remember that she’s just a teen, too.

That’s what makes us love her so much. She’s willing to be silly and fun, and she also makes some of the most amazing technology we’ve ever seen in a Marvel movie. It helps that she may have altered Peter Parker’s suit as well (as is a theory for his ever changing suit in the Infinity War trailers). So while Shuri is relatively new to some geek girls, she is someone we can look up to for years to come.
