Insecure has us all feeling lit. The fact that it’s already headed for a season 3 is proof of the show’s success. Everyone in the show is so stylish, especially the ladies, despite all of their ongoing issues. Yes, Issa Rae is a god for bringing this show to the masses, but let’s take a moment to focus on the hidden gem behind the chic trends of the show.

Costume designer Ayanna James is the driving force behind the stylish outfits seen on the show. Seriously, do yourself a favor and follow the woman’s Instagram. James’ specialty seems to be pairing the perfect print with the perfect personality and body type. It’s clear from her interviews that she puts a lot of thought into each and every look. The other reason to swoon over James’ work on Insecure is because many of the looks are new to mainstream television.

James also makes sure to buy from up and coming designers of color, and she’s not afraid to specifically say that she tries to look for “black and brown designers” when choosing pieces for Issa, Molly and the rest of the cast. Sorry, but I don’t think This is Us is doing that.
