Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Many fiery returns
Game of Thrones season 8 filming may have confirmed that one character hasn’t died just yet, although it’s not completely certain.
Warning: Even though there’s a green screen involved, Game of Thrones season 8 filming still counts as a spoiler!
Game of Thrones season 8 has a lot to answer for when it comes to all of the filming done at Magheramorne Quarry lately. As per usual, r/freefolk has found the best evidence from the most recent shooting that’s happened.
This time around, there’s more than just photos to look at. Someone by the name of Davy Orr managed to actually shoot video:
In case you missed it, that’s what looks like a short column of fire about midway through the video. Another fan on Twitter replied to the video with the theory we agree with.
Let’s dive into these propositions further, though, because we’re inclined to agree with one over the other. Although Melisandre also has connections to fire, we’ve seen a similar column effect before in season 7 with Beric Dondarrion’s flaming sword in “Beyond the Wall.” Granted, it’s always possible that someone else has managed to learn the trick to it.
However, it seems as though the flaming swords might be the provenance of the red priests. Although both Kinvara and Melisandre still live as far as we know, they’re also not in positions to have taught anyone how to perform it, either. (We don’t even know where Melisandre is right now!)
Photos suggest that both Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are in the scene as well. Jon may pull it off at some point, but unless and until we see either Kit Harington or his stunt double with a flaming sword in hand, we’ll put more money on it being Beric.
This might disprove an earlier theory we wrote about, supposing that Tormund lived while Beric did not. Kristofer Hivju has already spent some time with members of the cast, so it’s possible that both survive the breach of the Wall. If they do, the first place they go would probably be Winterfell. Speculation currently has it that Magheramorne will be part of the battle there.
