Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: An army returns

It seems as though night filming for Game of Thrones season 8 hasn’t finished up quite yet, although these photos do suggest something could be wrong.

Warning: Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers are powerful things.

Watchers on the Wall has sourced some fairly recent and intriguing photos surrounding Magheramorne. While we previously concurred with the theory that this green screen would be for Pyke yet again, both Watchers and Oakleaf Photography point out that we can clearly see Unsullied here.

Watchers puts forth the theory that this is part of the Winterfell sequence, but doesn’t really propose when this could be in terms of the timeline.

We have a proposal, as we usually do, but first, the photos:

Let’s run off of Oakleaf’s proposal here, that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, or at least their stunt doubles, are here with the Unsullied. Daenerys appears to be standing, not riding a dragon. (That could be a dragon to the left, or at least a dragon prop.) So, what is the point of this? Are Daenerys and Jon escaping together with some Unsullied, leaving Winterfell to burn behind them? It would explain that, at least. Perhaps Jon is attempting to convince her that she needs to take Drogon and Rhaegal and go before they’re captured and resurrected to serve the Night King as well.

Oakleaf also proposes, as you can see in the above tweet, that the Night King himself shows up at this point. Presumably, he’s been tracking the other dragons, and will burst out for a real face-to-face confrontation with Jon and Daenerys. We’ve been guessing that some sort of ambush is included in the Winterfell battle sequence, although I initially proposed that it would come at the start of the battle rather than perhaps towards the end as this could indicate.

Ultimately, this is just the first bit of evidence. This probably won’t be the last filming at night, as evidenced by other shoots for this season.
