Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: A conflagration is coming

What in the name of the old gods and the new is Game of Thrones season 8 planning now? Could it be another fight sequence, or just additional shots?

Warning: Although the new information for Game of Thrones season 8 doesn’t constitute a direct spoiler, it does lead to some definitely spoiler-based theorizing.

Sometimes Game of Thrones likes to throw its fans for a loop. About two weeks ago, rumor had it that Moneyglass filming was over for season 8. However, r/freefolk now has it that things at Moneyglass could actually go on.

Naturally, the fans at Reddit absolutely picked up on that possible contradiction, even going so far as to find semi-official sources that suggest filming could go on through April.

But here’s the thing — as far as we can tell, it’s not actually Winterfell that’s being filmed at right now. The fans of r/freefolk know their Game of Thrones locations, and one has proposed that this is actually the filming location from “The Battle of the Bastards.” So it’s kind of Winterfell, but it’s kind of not Winterfell at the same time.

Here’s the photo from Reddit:

Fans have speculated that this could be a conflict in the woods between some of our main characters and their primary enemies. However, since we’ve already seen plenty of night filming, it’s possible that we’ll see the beginnings of any attack on Winterfell.

Picture it for a moment.

We could see the undead marching inexorably through the woods, only the glow of their eyes  providing much in the way of light. Perhaps there’s a lone torch of a patrolling Unsullied, only to have it snuffed by a wight or even the Night King himself, converting the soldier to his army. Then, they emerge, perhaps with the dead Unsullied leading the way, marching alongside as undead Viserion bursts out into the open air, with or without the Night King riding him.

That would make for an eerie ending to the episode prior to the actual battle episode, or it could serve as the opening sequence before the real action begins.

This is your chance! Tell us how you’d direct a sequence with this set, Game of Thrones fans.
