Victoria and the Prime Minister face off over Ireland and Ernest sets his sights on Harriet once again in “Faith, Hope & Charity.”

If the Super Bowl isn’t your thing but you still want to see a conflict tonight, Victoria‘s got you covered. In “Faith, Hope & Charity” the young monarch clashes with the Prime Minister over a famine in Ireland — she assumes England will send help, he plans to stay out of it.

It’s hard not to side with Victoria here: she wants to save people from starving and Peel is dithering about a potential revolt in his Conservative Party. “If English laborers were dying in ditches, it would be a scandal. But because they are Irish, they are ignored,” Victoria says in the episode teaser. Way to acknowledge the elephant in the room, girl.

Lest tonight’s installment be entirely about affairs of state, it seems Ernest and Harriet’s will they/won’t they thing will finally come to a head. Harriet’s husband, the Duke of Sutherland, passes away, and suddenly Ernest is no longer pining after a married woman. Victoria keeps returning to these two as a couple, but honestly, I’ve never bought them as more than flirty acquaintances. Historical spoiler alert: the real Ernest did not end up marrying the Duchess of Sutherland, so hopefully this particular subplot will wrap up for good in “Faith, Hope & Charity.”

Here’s the episode description, courtesy of PBS:

"News of the horrific famine in Ireland has finally reached the Queen. She is adamant that her government should be doing more to help, but meets with surprising opposition from her Prime Minister."
