Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Don’t count the castle out just yet
Although reports seem to suggest that a famous castle in Game of Thrones might not survive season 8, there might be a little bit of hope.
Warning: Game of Thrones has had some massive developments in filming over the past day or so. It’s impossible to not view these as spoilers.
Game of Thrones season 8 is apparently prepared to destroy everything you love, and we mean that only slightly hyperbolically, considering what’s come out about Winterfell lately. Our sister site Winter is Coming has found some video that purports to show the set actually aflame.
However, and this is a pretty big however, r/freefolk has found that it seems like the set hasn’t actually been totally destroyed or anything like that. Granted, that same Twitter thread includes a note from Watchers on the Wall saying that the fires themselves were real enough to get the fire department involved.
That same news story, by the way, puts in notes that it is a “big battle scene” with a few hundred extras milling about. In short, whatever’s going on at Winterfell is, well, large.
Here’s the video that kicked all of this off:
GOT set on fire🔥

Granted, the situation looks pretty terrible for the home of the Starks. The sheer number of extras and amount of times we’ve seen different forms of fire at the set suggests that whatever’s going down will fundamentally alter the paradigms of Game of Thrones season 8 … and also probably take quite some time to happen. After all, the castle is primarily made of stone — so it’s possible that someone will arrive to something like a smoldering, possibly still-burning ruin.
But now, we’re starting to wonder if Winterfell will claim some victims like Arya or possibly Sansa herself. With something like this, a death of a well-known character almost seems guaranteed, and we already knocked off the worst person there in Littlefinger last season. Prepare yourselves for some emotional pain.
