How will Kara recover from her disastrous battle with Reign? In this week’s episode, Supergirl recruits a legion of superheroes to help.

A lot happened in the last Supergirl episode of 2017. For starters, Samantha completed her transformation into the villainous “world-killer” Reign, seemingly once and for all. It was both a long time coming and rather abrupt; one scene, she’s chatting with Kara at a Christmas party, and the next, she is punching Kara through buildings. No trace of the kind, hard-working woman we came to know and love remains.

Now, it’s a new year, and a new episode airs tonight. Based on the plot synopsis, the midseason premiere, titled “Legion of Superheroes”, will put Kara on the back-burner.

Check it out below:

"MEET THE LEGION – Struggling to heal from her injuries inflicted by Reign (Odette Annable), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) remains in a dreamlike state, unable to be reached. Mon-El (Chris Wood) recruits one of the Legion members, Brainiac-5 (guest star Jesse Rath), to try to bring her back. Meanwhile, Reign continues her rampage on the city so the DEO teams up with the Legion of Superheroes to try to stop her."

On one hand, we aren’t exactly clamoring for an episode centered on Mon-El. Chris Wood has his charms, but the show’s interest in the character continues to outweigh our own.

Still, this could offer a fun digression from the angst that has become the norm on Supergirl. DC introduced the Legion of Superheroes in its Adventure Comics series during the ‘50s. The team has undergone numerous iterations since then, but its original members were Lightning Boy (aka Live Wire), Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, and Superboy. We already met Saturn Girl/Imra Ardeen on the show; it will be exciting to see her as more than just Mon-El’s wife.
